Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Create a Handwritten Memo Using S Memo App in Android 5.0.1 Lollipop

S Memo app in Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with two modes. First, the text mode that will let you create memos by entering text using virtual keyboard or voice dictation feature. Second, the drawing mode that will let you create handwritten memos by drawing your memo using your finger. As same as when you create a text memo, you can also complete your handwritten memo by inserting pictures, voice recording and maps into your memo.


How to use S Memo app to create a handwritten memo?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Open S Memo app.
  2. Tap at the top of the screen to enter the drawing mode and start making a handwritten memo.
  3. If needed, before drawing your memo, you can change the pen settings by using the following steps:
    • Tap at the top of the screen to open up the pen settings.
    • There are five pen types available. Tap the required pen type you want to use.
    • To adjust the pen thickness, slide the pen thickness adjustment bar to the right to increase the pen thickness or to the left to decrease the pen thickness.
    • To change the pen color, tap the required pen color you want to use or you can tap to get more colors for your pen.
    • Tap to close the pen settings.
  4. Now, you can draw your memo using your finger.
  5. If you have drawn something wrong in your memo, tap at the top of the screen to use the eraser tool and then rub the screen using your finger to erase the wrong memo. If needed, you can change the eraser tool settings by using the following steps:
    • Tap at the top of the screen to open up the eraser tool settings.
    • To adjust the eraser tool size, slide the eraser tool size adjustment bar to the right to increase the eraser size or to the left to decrease the eraser size.
    • To quickly clear all your handwritten memo, tap Clear all button.
    • You can also undo your last drawing by tapping at the top of the screen, or redo your last drawing by tapping at the top of the screen.
  6. If needed, you can insert an object into your memo by tapping at the bottom of the screen and then select from the following options:
    • Take picture: tap this option to insert a picture taken with the stock Camera app.
    • Images: tap this option to insert a picture from the stock Gallery app.
    • Clipboard: tap this option to insert a copied picture from the clipboard.
    • Maps: tap this option to insert a captured location from the Google Maps app. FYI, this option works if your phone has Internet connection.
    • Clip art: tap this option to insert a picture from the provided clip art.
  7. If you have inserted an object(e.g: picture, clip art, etc) into your memo, you can do the following actions:
    • Resize: tap and hold the object to select it and then drag the edge of the object to resize it. Tap the background to deselect object.
    • Move: tap and hold the object and then drag it using your finger to move the object. Tap the background to deselect the object.
    • Delete: tap and hold the object to select it and then tap to delete the object.
    • Rotate: tap and hold the object to select it and then tap
      or tap to rotate the object. Tap the background to deselect the object.
  8. If needed, you can insert a voice recording into your memo by using the following steps:
    • Tap at the bottom of the screen. A voice recorder window will appear in your screen.
    • Tap Record button to start recording.
    • While recording, you can stop recording(this will add the recording to your memo automatically), pause/resume recording or discard recording.
    • After recording, you can replay, replace or delete the recording.
  9. Tap at the bottom of the screen to add a new page for your handwritten memo.
  10. Tap at the bottom of the screen to review your handwritten memo in the view mode. While you're in this mode, you can do the following actions:
    • Zoom in: spread two fingers apart together.
    • Zoom out: pinching the screen.
    • Move between pages: swipe the screen to the left or to the right.
    • Return to the edit mode: tap at the bottom of the screen to return to the edit mode.
  11. Tap Save button at the top right corner to save your memo.
  12. Enter the name for your handwritten memo and then tap OK button.
  13. Your handwritten memo has been saved.
