Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Gesture Control Feature in Camera App in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Gesture control is a gesture-based feature available in the Camera app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that is designed to help you take a better self-portrait photo. When this feature is enabled, your phone will automatically take a photo of yourself a few seconds after you show your palm to the camera and your phone recognises it. This feature comes handy when you cannot use your hand to control the phone and want to have some time to correct your pose when taking a self-portrait photo.

How to enable or disable the gesture control feature in the Camera app?
You can turn on or off this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default, it uses the rear camera.
  2. Tap to switch the camera from the rear to the front.
  3. Tap at the top left corner of the screen to view more detailed settings for the front camera.
  4. Tap Shooting methods(front).
  5. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Gesture control to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns , means the gesture control feature is enabled.

How to use the gesture control feature when taking a self-portrait photo in the Camera app?
As the example, we'll use this feature to easily take selfies by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default, it uses the rear camera.
  2. Tap to switch the camera from the rear to the front.
  3. Face the front camera lens. Make sure your face is not too close with the camera and gets enough lighting so that it can easily be detected.
  4. Hold your hand out with your palm facing the front camera lens. When the camera recognises your palm, your phone will automatically take a photo after a few seconds.
Tips: you can use the delay before the camera takes your photo to correct your pose so you can get a better self-portrait photo.
