Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Pin Windows Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Pin windows is one of security features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you pin a specific app on your phone's screen so you cannot navigate away from this app. It comes handy to prevent those who borrow your phone for certain purpose, such as seeing your photo collection, from exploring your phone secretly to know your personal data or information.


How to enable the pin windows feature?
As the example, we'll turn on this feature when the screen lock type is set to PIN by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Lock screen and security and then tap it.
  3. Scroll the screen to the very bottom and then tap Other security settings.
  4. Scroll down the screen to find Pin windows and then tap it.
  5. If Pin windows is off, tap the ON/OFF switch to turn it on. The switch turns blue when it's enabled.
  6. If you're tight with security issue, you can set your phone to ask screen lock type before unpinning a pinned app by sliding the ON/OFF switch next to Ask for PIN before unpinning to the right. The switch turns blue when it's enabled.


How to pin an app using the pin windows feature?
As the example, we'll use this feature to pin the Gallery app by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Gallery app.
  2. Tap the Recents key(it's located in the left side of the Home key) to view all recent apps.
  3. If needed, scroll the recent apps screen to the very bottom and then tap in the bottom right corner of the Gallery app window.
  4. A pop up window appears on the screen to tell you some information about the pin windows feature and inform you that while an app is pinned, notifications from other apps will be blocked and other functions such as calling and messaging , may not be available. If you're OK with it, tap Start button to continue.
  5. The Gallery app has been pinned. Now, your phone can be used to navigate the Gallery app only because access to other apps will be prevented.
    FYI, when the screen timeout is over when an app is being pinned, the screen will turn off automatically but won't be locked.

How to unpin a pinned app?
You have to unpin a pinned app if you'd like to be able to navigate away from the pinned app. As the example, we'll unpin the Gallery app that we have pinned before by using the following steps:
  1. Tap and hold the Back key and the Recent apps key at the same time.
  2. Swipe your finger on the lock screen and then perform your current screen lock type. As the example, if the screen lock type is set to PIN, enter your 4 digit PIN numbers to continue unpinning the pinned app.
    FYI, this step has to be done to unpin the pinned app if you enable ask for PIN before unpinning option in advance.
  3. The Gallery app has been unpinned and now you can navigate away from this app.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable or Disable Auto Factory Reset Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

When you're using one of screen lock types with secure lock settings(pattern, PIN, password, or fingerprints), you can enable the auto factory reset feature to have your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge automatically resets to factory settings if you or others attempt to unlock the phone incorrectly 15 times. This feature will give you two advantages: 1) it will provide you an easier way to factory reset your phone when you forget your screen lock method than if you have to do so manually from the recovery mode, 2) it will prevent unauthorised people from accessing or using information saved in your phone when it lost or stolen.


How to enable or disable the auto factory reset feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen to find Lock screen and security and then tap it.
  3. Tap Secure lock settings.
  4. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Auto factory reset to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns blue , means the auto factory reset feature is enabled and your phone will perform factory reset automatically if you or others attempt to unlock the phone incorrectly 15 times. Please note that performing factory reset will delete all data, including files and downloaded apps.

  6. When needed, you can set your phone to ask performing screen lock type when unpin a pinned app by sliding the ON/OFF switch next to Use screen lock type to unpin to the right to enable it. The switch turns green when it's enabled. FYI, you have to use more secure screen lock type(pattern, pin, password or fingerprints) if you'd like to use this option.


How to pin an app?
As the example, we'll use this feature to pin Gallery app by using the following steps:
  1. Open Gallery app.
  2. Tap the Recent apps key(it's located in the left side of the Home key) to view your recent apps list.
  3. When needed, scroll the screen to the very bottom and then tap at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  4. A pop up window contains with some information about the pin windows feature will be displayed on the screen. Tap Start to start pinning Gallery app.
  5. Gallery app has been pinned and you can only use your phone to navigate this app. As a note, while an app is pinned, notifications from other apps will be blocked and other functions, such calling and messaging, may not available.


How to unpin a pinned app?
You have to unpin a pinned app if you'd like to be able to navigate away from the pinned app. As the example, we'll unpin Gallery app that we have pinned before by using the following steps:
  1. Tap and hold the Back key and the Recent apps key at the same time.
  2. Perform the screen lock type(assuming that you set fingerprints as the screen lock type, place the registered fingerprint on the Home key). FYI, it has to be done if you enable the use screen lock type to unpin option in advance.
  3. Gallery app has been unpinned and you now can navigate your phone or open other apps.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Clear All Saved Passwords in the Browser Apps

There is an option inside the stock Browser apps on Samsung Galaxy S3 called remember password that will make the browser save the user name and password for websites. This of course will help you to prevent entering the wrong password, given in a single day you may have to entering lot of passwords, from the social media up to a bank account password.

  2. In a web browser, go to www.samsungdive.com
  3. Click Sign In button.
  4. Click E-mail field then type your email address associated with your Samsung account.
  5. Click Password field then type your password.
  6. Click Sign In button.
  7. Click Lock My Mobile option in the left side of the screen.
  8. Here you can send the message to your phone that will be displayed on your phone's screen lock. Ensure you tick the checkbox next to the option "The following message will be displayed on your phone".
  9. Tick the checkbox next to option to enter a mobile number then enter your phone number that can be called from the locked phone. This number is also used to send notification message when the SIM card on your phone is changed.
  10. Set your new Unlock PIN to unlock your phone. As a note this PIN is temporary and only used by the Find My Mobile service.
  11. Tap Lock button to lock your phone remotely.
  12. Now your phone will be locked and displayed message and contact number you've just entered.

  14. Tap Home key to return to the standby mode.

How to use Samsung Dive to find and track your phone?
Once you've finished add your Samsung account to your phone and turn on Remote controls, now you can start using Samsung Dive on your PC to track and find your phone. To do so kindly follow the steps below:
  1. Open web browser by clicking the web browser icon on your desktop.
  2. In a web browser, go to www.samsungdive.com
  3. Click Sign In button.
  4. Click E-mail field then type your email address associated with your Samsung account.
  5. Click Password field then type your password.
  6. Click Sign In button.
  7. Click Track My Mobile option in the left side of the screen.
  8. Click Find my mobile button.
  9. Now you should see the current location of your phone displayed on a map.
  10. Click Start Tracking button to start track location of your phone. This will give you the movement history of your phone every 15 minutes for 12 hours.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Change Barring Password

In Samsung Galaxy S3 you can restrict certain types of incoming or outgoing calls by turned on call barring settings. To make a change on you call barring settings, you will be prompted to enter 4 digit barring password.

  11. Tap on New password field then enter your new 4 digit barring password.
  12. Tap on Confirm password then enter your new 4 digit barring password again to confirm your new password.

  14. Finish. Now you have managed to change your barring password.

  8. Enter your 4 digit current PIN2. When you never change your PIN2, the default is 0000, then tap OK button.
  9. Enter your new 4 digit PIN2 then tap OK button.
  10. Enter your new 4 digit PIN2 again to confirm your new PIN2 then tap OK button.
  11. Finish. Now you have managed to change your current PIN2 with the new one you like.

But, for the record, if you entering wrong PIN2 three times in a row then your SIM will be blocked and you need to enter your PUK2 to unblock it.   5. The display will tell you when the SIM card is blocked.
  6. Enter your PUK.
  7. Tap New PIN Code field, enter your new 4 digit SIM PIN then tap OK button.
  8. Enter your new 4 digit SIM PIN again to confirm your new PIN, then tap OK button.
  9. Finish. Now your SIM should be unblocked and you can use it again.

But, you should note that while you are trying to unblock your blocked SIM and you entering an incorrect PUK ten times in a row, then your SIM will be blocked permanently or in other words it will no longer can be used and you should buy the new ones. When you entering the wrong PIN three times in a row then your SIM will be blocked and you need to enter your PUK to unblock it. And for the record, if you entering the wrong PUK ten times in a row then your SIM will be blocked permanently or in other words your SIM will no longer can be used and you need to buy the new ones.   6. Key in your PIN. The default PIN is 0000 then tap OK button.
  7. Finish. Now you have managed to turn off your mobile phone PIN.
